VASE IN THE FORM OF TRUMPET FLOWERS

Creator(s): Unknown

On view in: Pavilion Hallway

About this object

The flower shaped vase is carved from very thin Tibetan jade. The type of vase is a Rhyton. It is almost clear except for a few splotches of green. The shape is like a large open flower. This flower is repeated to one side in miniature. The intertwined stems and leaves form the base and extend up one side, and forms a handle on top of which rests an exotic bird with a long tail which curves down onto the handle. The wooden base is carved with a tangle of branches and leaves like in the lower part of the base.
