About this object

A pair of lamps with a jade carving of an elephant as its base. Each elephant is carved from solid spinach jade. The body is carved to imitate a rich Caparison. On the top where the houdah usually rests is a candlestick, the central portion of which is a lotus. Each elephant has its truck lowered and curled upward. He stands on a rectangular base which is part of the jade from which the elephant is carved. They have boxy shades and a pink hardstone as finial.
