About this object

Vase is carved from white jade with touches of brown on the side. The vase is flattened and has two handles in the form of elephants heads with a free hanging ring dangling from the trunks. On the front of the vase, carved in cameo, is a rose bush with leaves and roses and an exotic bird with a long tail standing on an upper branch. The lower branches curve onto the base. On the back is carved in very low relief an exotic bird with a long tail, a flowering tree and an inscription. On the cover is carved in high relief a branch with a rose. The shape is derived from an old Chinese bronze.
