About this object
The figurine is carved in amethyst colored jade with markings in dark green. Guanyin, the Buddhist Bodhisattva of Mercy, is dressed in flowing robes with long sleeves. She has an elaborate topknot with a lotus set on top of it. She holds a branch of lingzhi fungus in her left hand from which hangs a basket with a lid. She leans to her right. To her left is a child standing on some rocks and holding aloft an axe-like object of which the Guanyin holds the top. The child looks forward and smiles. He wears a helmet-like hat. The wooden base is a simple oval.
