About this object

The figurine shows Guanyin, Bodhisattva of Mercy, dressed in long flowing robes with a cowl over her head. She has her hands under her robes and clasped in front of her as if in prayer. Her eyes are downcase. She has a thin necklace at her neck. She stands on carved waves. Her robe and the waves move to the right as if a wind was blowing. The statuette is of unusual size and the quality of the jade is beautiful. The wooden base is carved with crabs, frogs and fish. It was carved by Jerry Wheeler, carpenter at Hillwood.
