About this object

This hand-colored engraving shows a panoramic view of the Neva River with a large sailboat in the foreground, as well as a variety of other schooners and small cargo boats. On the lower left is a partial view of the pier of the Admiralty, which is next to Rastrelli's Winter Palace, identified by the bright blue roof. Opposite the palace and facing the river is the Academy of Sciences, also with a blue roof. The tall spire of the Cathedral and Fortress of Saint Peter and Paul can be seen in the background on the right. The roofs of the buildings, the boats, the river water, and the sky are hand-colored.
