About this object
Christ is shown half length with his right hand raised in blessing and holding in his left hand the Gospels open at the text "Come unto me all who labor and are heavy burdened and I will give thee rest." His round black eyes are opened very wide and stare towards his right. His mane of light brown hair falls in curls at the nape of his neck and his beard is a vague shadow. His red chiton has a border of white and ochre dots around the neck and cuffs and a pattern of gold flowers that has almost worn off. Over it he wears a green hymation with gold drapery folds. The ground is painted a muddy green over a gold ground? with no polia except for a gold line defining the lower edge of the kovcheg and a red filenka. Christ's halo is of the same green with a gold outer border. His initials are written on the upper corners of the icon and the inscription "Lord Pantocrator" runs across the center. All but Christ's face and hands are covered by a silver oklad. His hymation is rendered in repousse with a chased floral design. The border is stamped with a dense foliate pattern within a ? border, with chased spandrels at each corner and a plaque inscribed "Lord Pantocrator" on the bottom center.
