About this object

The miniature is one of seven fragments from a mineological icon for October. It depicts the Holy Martyr St. Anastasia the Roman standing on a grassy knoll against a bright blue sky. She holds a martyr's cross in her right hand, and her left is extended palm up. She wears a plum red mantle and a short blue tunic over a yellow gown, all highlighted with chrysography. A narrow border at top is inscribed with her name and the date of her feastday (29th).
