About this object

A half-length portrait of a young woman facing to the left. She wears her hair up. It is powdered grey and dressed high with many curls and with a curl falling over each shoulder. Her dress is white with puffed sleeves and a high standard collar rising up at the back behind her hair. She wears a black ribbon around her neck, and a strand of perals falls from around her collar across her bodice. The background is painted blue and white to simulate the sky. The silver frame is partially gilt and is composed of two intertwined bands set in rose diamonds and rubies. At the back is a series of plumes made from human hair, blond and brown of various shades. At the bottom of the plumes is a band of thread with pearls. The front and back are covered with shaped crystal. At the top of a gold ring for hanging on a ribbon.
