About this object
Miniature of a young woman, based on David's portrait of Madame Seriziat. She is seated 3/4 length turned to the right and facing forward. She sits in a landscape with a cloudy sky and a stand of trees to the left. She is sitting on a bench covered with a red cloth, holding a bunch of flowers in right hand. Her left hand lies in her lap. She is wearing a pale yellow straw hat with a turquoise band and a bow tied under her chin. There are leaves stuck into the band of the hat. Her white dress has long sleeves and a turquoise sash. It is pleated and has a high collar. Her hair is curly and cascades over her shoulders. The frame is ivory and is carved with grotesque masks at the top and bottom with bold ribbon-like scrolls carved in high relief around them.
