About this object

Miniature of a young man, based on David's portrait of Monsieur Seriziat. He is seated 3/4 length turned to the left and facing forward. He is in a landscape with a cloudy sky behind him, and rocks and bushes to the right. He is sitting on a bench covered with a blue cloth, and holds a whip in his right hand along his right side. The whip projects to the right. He has a tan glove in his left hand, which is stuffed in his pocket. His left leg is crossed over the right at the knee. He is wearing a hunting costume consisting of a black top hat, white shirt with lace cravate and vest, a scarlet coat with high collar, and pale yellow pants. It is framed in ivory which is carved with grotesque masks at the top and bottom, separated by bold ribbon-like scrolls carved in high relief.
