Portrait of a naval officer in a blue uniform with white epaulettes decorated with four gold stars on each. It has a high collar trimmed in gold and two rows of brass buttons down the front. He wears a cross of St. George, fourth class on his lapel. He has a long handlebar moustache and short dark hair. He is seated on a sofa with a dog beside him in the lower right corner of the picture. His right arm is resting on the back of the sofa with a cigar in his hand. Under his arm appears to be a small octagonal mat. The background is in blue, while draped to the left and above is a red curtain with fringes and tassels.
