About this object

The miniature shows a bust-sized portrait of a lady turned to the left and facing forward. She is wearing a straw bonnet tied beneath her chin with a large bow. She has brown eyes and curly powdered hair which can be seen from below the brim of the hat and as it cascades down her back. Her dress is shown with a few swatches of material at the bodice. There are touches of blue in the background. The frame has a border of rose-cut diamonds and rubies. There is one large diamond in the center at the top in the center of a tied bow constructed from the diamonds. At the bottom are two ends of ribbon with small rose-cut diamonds and a another larger one in the center. In the back, on a blue silk ground, is a curved lock of hair bound by a strip of pearls and with the initials, EML in gold script letters.
