Mrs. Post is shown half length, her head in profile facing to the left. Her hair is elaborately curled. Her right hand is raised to adjust a fur piece which is around her shoulders. She wears a decollete black dress with embroidered shoulder caps, earrings, the sapphire necklace, a brooch which is clipped to the front of her dress and a ring on her right hand. The background is plain. This is a preparatory sketch for the oil portrait now in the Adam Room at Hillwood. (51.143)
