About this object
A scene in the Ukraine with a group of mostly female peasants in "native" costume seated in an open, grassy area at the edge of a river. Two women are seated in the left foreground. A man reclines near them, a discarded balalaika at his elbow. The woman at the farthest right exchanges glances with two standing women in the left, middleground. They seem to be laughing about the young man's flirting with a shy girl with flowers in her lap. Behind this group a second man plays an accordion. A young man and woman dance as a group of seated and standing men and women watch. Boats or barges can be seen on the river at right.
