About this object

Portrait of Empress Catherine II shown three quarters length and facing forward. Her dress is greyish in color and trimmed with lace at the neck and sleeves and she wears the blue sash of the imperial order of St. Andrew and the diamond star of the same order on her breast. She wears a small diamond studded crown, elaborate diamond earrings, and a brooch set with diamonds and with large pearl drops. Her red mantle is lined with ermine. Empress holds a scepter in her left hand while her right hand rests on a cross surmounted globe on a stand. In background are columns and bluish curtains with gold tassels.
