About this object

A landscape with figures. There is a tree stump in the lower right hand corner beyond which is a brick house with a thatched roof. Before it sits a woman in profile wearing a white kerchief, a reddish bodice and sleeves, a white apron and a blue skirt. At her knee stands a large basket filled with apples and next to it is a man wearing a brimmed hat, a tan jacket, a white shirt and red pants. He is barefoot and is smoking a pipe, with his arms folded and facing the woman. At the left in mid-distance is a clump of apple trees, a man in the branches of one tree and another man below standing by a ladder. A third man is walking off to the right with a sack of apples on his back. In the far center distance is a barn-like building, a winding stream and a hill on the horizon. There are white clouds in a pale blue sky and several flying birds.
