On the edge of the canvas is a narrow painted frame in ochre with an inner white painted band. The lower half of the painting is painted gray and is blank. This is the area where the words of the ad would be placed. The scene in the upper section is of a farmer in overalls and a big straw hat leading two yolked oxen pulling a cart. In his left hand is a stick. There is a landscape in the background with a rail fence enclosing cultivated fields. In the center distance is a farmhouse, and a barn. There are hills and woods in the far distance. The sky is blue with clouds.
