About this object

In an interior, there is a young woman seated on a rose-red velvet couch. She reclines against the back of the couch which has a striped pattern. She is facing almost full front. Her hair is swept up and she has a band around her head. She wears a yellow satin dress with short sleeves in the Empire style. The dress has a long train and a shirred bodice and sleeves. She holds in her outstretched right hand a small blue book, and in her left is a handkercheif. At the left is a tripod table in Empire style on which rest three books, a glass vase with roses and a brown ceramic vase with a palm. Behins this table is a window with pleated curtains. The wallpaper has a scalloped pattern on it.
