About this object

The painting is extremely dark. It shows a scene in a courtyard with several figures. One is a man with blond curls, wearing a white shirt, who is seated in the center of the canvas and is pointing at a child to the left. The child is sitting near a dead deer. There is a woman standing next to the man holding a bottle of wine and the man's hat and gun, with her right arm around him. There are two agitated children at the lower right holding dead game, a turkey and a rabbit. Other figures include several dogs, one nursing a puppy, a woman hanging wash in the background, a man in a red cap at right in a doorway who is holding a staff and talking to the two children and an old person on a chair at left. The courtyard is cluttered, the walls are yellow with a patch of blue sky showing to the upper left.
