About this object

A still life of fruit. At the center is an ornate compote, filled with a pineapple, purple and white grapes, leaves and two apples. Below the compote, is a platter filled with more grapes and peaches, raspberries, and leaves. To the right is an ornate metal pitcher and a wine glass with two pears at their bases. The pitcher has elaborate high relief images on its sides of mythological scenes. The still life is arranged on top of a carved wooden table, a portion of which can be seen at the lower left of the painting. The table is covered with a wool fringed carpet or shawl, the edge of which is seen in the center bottom of the painting. The background is a dark green color with brownish scrolls.
