About this object

Portrait of a teenage girl in a white dress seated on a stonewall outdoors. Her feet are bare. She wears a thin band in her hair, and stares full face out of the painting. Her dress is classical in style with a v-neck. It appears to be draped around her body and is tied around the waist with more fabric. She holds the stem of a daisy in her left hand, with the petals plucked off. She holds come of the petals in her right hand. There is a tree at the right with some ivy growing over it. The sky is grey with a little sky showing through the clouds. In the distance is a body of water and a mountain at the left. The painting was exhibited at the Salon in Paris in 1881 with the title "Méditation" (no 1821).
