About this object

This gray-blue lace dress is built on a fitted silk crêpe foundation. The garment is cut in a princess line with a sweetheart neckline in front and a low back. Wide, transparent lace shoulder straps are supported with narrow interior straps. Bodice is decorated bands of gathered tulle. The skirt is also decorated with alternating bands of gathered tulle and shaped lace and net panels beginning at center front waist and sweeping down center and around the body. The center front of the skirt is filled in will a lace panel. A wide band of horsehair is placed at the skirt hem for stiffening. Garment closes at center back with a metal zipper. A matching lace belt, backed in leather, is worn at waist. The square belt buckle and the latch are also fabric covered. The dress was worn with a matching three-quarter circle shaped cape edged with two bands of gathered tulle and finished with two flat tulle ties at center front.
