About this object

This transparent, peach colored lace dress is worn with a cream colored satin underdress. The overdress is composed of organza lace with tulle fillings in an irregular pattern. The narrow bodice is cut low in back and fits close to the neck in front with a pointed collar applied flat. The bodice is shaped by the cutting and overlap seaming of the lace. Long, narrow sleeves close on the underside of the arm with a row of covered buttons and thread loops. The cap of the sleeve is accented with an inset epaulette that is wired to stand away from the body. The skirt is attached to the bodice at a waist seam which is covered by a narrow belt, closing at center front. The center front skirt panel is cut narrow at the top and bells out dramatically at the hem. Other skirt panels increase in size as they move around the body, creating a train at center back. Horsehair is placed at the back hem for weight. The underdress is generously cut, with a square neck and 1" wide cotton organza shoulder straps. Two side panels are square cut at the waist. The skirt is pieced on the sideback seams to increase flare at the hem. The center back panel is cut in one with no seam. The closure is set to the left of the back panel with a row of metal hooks and eyes. Hem is even to floor.
