About this object

Marjorie Merriweather Post's youngest daughter, Nedenia Marjorie Hutton (American, b. 1923), wore this empire-style gown of pale blue satin at her mother's wedding to Joseph E. Davies on December 15, 1935. The garment has a scooped neck, short puffed sleeves and a long train. Roped pearls and rhinestones in a leaf pattern are placed at the under bust seam and sleeve cuffs. The neckline is trimmed with one row of shaped lace stiffened with heavy millinery wire. The skirt is trimmed at the hem with box-pleated tulle. A matching crescent shaped headpiece with a tulle veil completes the ensemble.
