About this object

This dress and cape ensemble were worn by Mrs. Post for her presentation at the Court of St. James's. The tubular dress is sleeveless with dropped waistline and slightly flared at bottom. The flesh colored organza bodice and skirt are cut in one piece. A green organza skirt is attached at the dropped waist. The garment is heavily beaded on the side seams and waist, both back and front, with rhinestones and clear bugle beads in a floral motif. Green, white and metallic threads are used to shade the clear beads. The garment is finished with an uneven hem. The original undergarment is missing and has been replaced with a green polyacetate garment probably patterned from the original. The train is flesh colored organza edged with two layers of free-hanging organza, one flesh tone and one green. The same beading is applied at the edge of the interior organza panel. Train attaches to dress with metal bars at dress shoulder.
