About this object

Marjorie Merriweather Post's youngest daughter, Nedenia Marjorie Hutton (American, b. 1923), wore this ivory organza dress in the wedding of her older sister, Adelaide Brevoort Close, to Thomas Welles Durant. The dress is built on a sleeveless silk taffeta foundation garment, attached at the yoke. The short sleeves and peter pan collar are trimmed in white fur. Six rows of gathered organza, also trimmed in fur, are sewn onto the skirt base. These bands form a point in center front where a small fabric tassel is suspended. Both the undergarment and dress close at center back with small covered buttons. A matching hat trimmed in rabbit and ermine fur is also in the collection. (48.56.2).
