About this object

This sleeveless, champagne colored velvet dress with silk charmeuse slip was worn by Adelaide for her debut in December, 1926. Shaped lace insets and straps are applied flat to top edge of slip bodice where a 3" band of tulle is also applied to help hold the dress in place. A 22" side panel of the same machine lace is attached at the hip line, hanging free to hem. The tubular slip is slightly flared at bottom and is finished in a scalloped edge with a shaped band of silk organza. The dress is also tubular in shape, with a scoop neckline at front and back and a wide princess line bodice. A slight flare to the hem is created by shaped insets at back side hip. The skirt opens at center left to reveal the lace of the slip. A flat bow with one tie is located on the left shoulder.
