About this object

This narrow, tubular dress with dropped waistline is typical of the new silhouette of the 1920s. The dress would have been worn at different times of day for activities such as a luncheon or tea, dinner or dancing, or an evening at the theater.

Tubular one piece sleeveless evening dress in red velvet. Trimmed at waist with two bands of metallic gold thread with red glass beads, gold painted strung beads, and rhinestones. A decorative sash begins at back left shoulder, is caught at waist and extends beyond hem. The dress is open on left side below waist to reveal the attached silk crêpe slip. Slip has flesh colored tulle straps and is edged along top in velvet.
