Marjorie Merriweather Post's eldest daughter, Adelaide Brevoort Close (American, 1908-1998), wore this dress at the marriage ceremony of her mother to E.F. Hutton on July 7, 1920. The dress was worn with a simple sleeveless cotton undergarment edged with lace at the neck and armholes. The bodice of the dress is decorated with vertical pleats. The square neck and short sleeves are trimmed with rows of lace and decorative flowers made of silk lawn. The skirt is embellished with interlocking lace rings and trimmed at hem with eight rows of lace applied in a scalloped shape. A seven-inch sash edged in lace ties in a large bow at the center back.
