About this object

Late Victorian two piece reception gown. The bodice consists of printed silk and solid blue taffeta with an overlay of black machine lace. The silk is pleated and tucked on the bais. Bodice has a high boned lace collar and a taffeta modesty panel at center front. Three quarter lenth sleeves end in flat lace and black pleated organza. The skirt consists of lace and silk in a cut and patched motif. The open lace suggests that the dress was worn with a matching petticoat, probably blue to match the existing bustle pad. The bustle pad is filled with horsehair. A flat, decorative sash of taffeta with knotted cotton thread is applied to the skirt on each side.
