About this object

This close-fitting Victorian style winter jacket is made of two different furs. The body is flat muskrat pelt. The trim on the collar, center front, hem, and sleeves is a dense squirrel fur. The jacket overlaps asymmetrically at center front, closing with seven fabric covered shank buttons and a self-button placket. Decorative elements include a four-paneled gored back, two inch stand collar, and dolman sleeves. The jacket can be worn with arms placed through the sleeves or through the body of the garment. The interior is lined with quilted satin. A small interior pocket is decorated with pleated taffeta, two small, flat bows and a beaver fur inset.
