About this object

Late Edwardian, sheath style summer dress with two tiered skirt. Bodice and short sleeves are decorated with bands of heavy, open-work lace. Both bodice and skirt are also embellished with cotton soutached and embroidered knots. The finishing work at the waist suggests that the dress originally had a belt or sash. The slight train indicates that it would have been worn to events such as afternoon teas or garden parties.
