About this object

This dance dress is very similar in design to a full length dress (48.118.1-3) in the collection. The white organza bodice is decorated with insets of gray lace in a diamond motif at center front. Pleats radiate from center front over the bust. A triangular section of lace between bust and waist is backed with pink organza. The bodice has an extended shoulder, creating a small sleeve. Covered buttons fasten the bodice at center back. A full skirt of white organza with diamond shaped insets of gray lace is pleated into the natural waist seam. A full pink organza underskirt is visible. The garment closes on the side with a metal zipper. A narrow, shaped belt is covered with fabric overlaid with gray lace. The dress was worn over a strapless petticoat of ivory colored taffeta. The petticoat has a full skirt and the bodice is supported with plastic boning. A pink net half petticoat with a taffeta waist yoke was also worn for added fullness. A swatch of gray lace identical to that used on the dress is placed at the center front of waistband. The half petticoat closes with metal hooks and eyes and one snap.
