About this object

Sleeveless evening gown in pink silk satin with a purple and silver brocaded design of stylized chrysanthemums. The bodice has a square neckline and wide shoulder straps created from vertical panels beginning at the waist and continuing over the shoulder. The skirt is attached flat at the waist and is swept to the left hip in deep knife pleats. The back of the skirt has one inverted box pleat on each side and ends in a slight train. A thin layer of pink organza and two layers of white net are used to stiffen the skirt. The entire garment is lined with pink silk satin that is tacked to the skirt hem at each seam. The dress closes at center back with a metal zipper. A pink taffeta half-petticoat was worn with this garment. It is a full skirt attached to a dropped waist yoke. The petticoat waist is finished with grosgrain ribbon. Paper felt is encased in the bottom half of the petticoat for stiffening.
