About this object

Black woven net afternoon dress with floral appliques in dark blue velvet. Each applique consists of a group of flowers and leaves that are machine stitched to the net in a complex arrangement. The high neck of the garment is left free of appliques, creating the illusion of a sweetheart neckline. A 5" section of the hem is also left unadorned. The garment is cut with an extended shoulder, and a full skirt is attached at the dropped waistline. A metal zipper closes the garment to mid-back; a covered button and loop secures the garment at center back neck. A black taffeta companion dress is constructed with a sweetheart neckline at both front and back. Flesh toned lingerie straps create the illusion of a strapless underdress. The top edge of the bodice is trimmed with two bands of the same flesh toned nylon. A full, A-line skirt is applied flat at the waist. The hem is finished with a 2" band of black woven net. The undergarment closes with a metal zipper at center back.
