About this object

Cream colored sheath style evening dress with a voluminous, multilayered flounce. The bodice is built on a boned, strapless foundation of satin and silk organza with narrow lingerie straps. The foundation is concealed by a short waisted, silk crêpe overbodice with double capped sleeves of pleated chiffon. The low scoop neckline is edged with rows of miniature, irridescent sequins stitched with pale yellow thread. The entire sheath portion of the dress is embellished with sequins sewn in small spiral configurations. The lower edge of the sheath is trimmed with horizontal rows of sequins, repeating the neckline decoration. The sheath falls straight to the knee in front; in back it is much shorter. The flounce consists of an outer layer of pleated nylon-organza and two under layers of organza applied flat. Bands of differing widths of nylon horsehair are encased in the hems of all three layers for stiffening. The garment closes with a metal zipper at center back and was worn with a narrow, sequin covered belt at the high waist.
