About this object

This full length evening dress is made in a silk brocade fabric with wide color bands of gray-green, tan and copper with an overall matte black paisley pattern. The gown is constructed in a gored, princess line with the sleeves and bodice cut in one. The dress has a portrait neckline and three quarter length sleeves with a pleated underarm seam. A single gusset is placed at underarm. Horizontal interior bands of horsehair support the wide bell shape of the skirt and train. The garment has a gros-grain waist tape and closes at center back with a metal zipper. Cotton underarm guards attached with elastic were probably added by the seller.
