About this object
This wide, ecru runner consists of a central linen panel with self-embroidery of detailed birds and urns of flowers and cutwork with reticella fillings. A rectangular inset at center depicts a courting couple in 18th century dress, a cupid, trees and birds. Three insets in varying shapes but with similar scenes of couples or single figures are placed at each end. The linen panel is bordered by very good Venise needle lace depicting classical and Baroque ornament, scrolls and figures.
