About this object

A Normandy style lace bedspread. (Normandy lace is a combination of laces from many different time frames that are handsewn together.) The lace is an overlay to a yellow satin and crepe underliner. The main body of this underliner is made of satin with the crepe creating a ruffle on two sides of the spread. The major design of the bedspread is created by the different laces. Starting in the center of the spread is an oval of Irish crochet with areas of needle lace. Surrounding this oval is a mesh of Irish crochet with scattered shamrocks and roses. A large circle of Irish crochet is the next element. Four quadrants of combination lace radiate from the crochet. The combinations are made of Irish crochet, needle lace, followed by crochet, Mechlin bobbin lace, and Gros Point de Venise needle lace. The edge is of Mechlin silk bobbin lace except for the top and bottom of the spread which is a plain silk mesh.
