About this object

Two ecru Lille type bobbin lace edgings that were once part of a slip or negligee. The design of the bodice is of flowers with cordonnets worked in clothwork bobbin lace. The mesh is Lille with some esprit. There is a peach silk cloth that this has been cut from and it appears by the gathering that perhaps there was some smocking to the piece. The hem edging is also a Lille bobbin mesh with esprit. The design is of baskets or fans of flowers that alternate with garlands with a central three roses. The hem is scalloped and this is formed by the rose garland and leaves. The hem has remnents of the same peach silk material that made up the body of the slip or negligee.
