About this object

A late 17 century ecru flounce in Point de France needle lace with a moderate amount of raised work. The design is of a fine scale (5 mm hexogons). There are symmetrical vertical axes with canopies over floral bouquets. There are oval cartouches and scrolls and shapes throughout. In each vertical column between 6 and 7 inches from the top border is the initial "M". There are possible initials ")(" entwined in the motif below and between the initial "M". This piece is uneven at both ends suggesting it was cut from a larger piece.
