About this object

Rectangular ecru linen and lace tablecoth. The outer edge of scaloped filet lace depicts confronted sirens. Attached to this is a linen panel in cutwork and embroidery with insets of needlelace depicting putti, rabbits, and birds eating fish. Above this is a very wide filet lace insertion with classical figures and columns. At the four corners are lunettes depicting women standing next to cows or horses. The lunettes appear to be supported by two bending figures below, similar to Atlas supporting the earth. The center of the cloth is a linen square with cutwork scrolls inset with needlelace flowers and children.
