A dark purple satin backing with 10 pieces of lace attached. 45.143.1 is a 17th century Dutch-type bobbin lace with floral clusters made in part lace technique with straight edges. There are separate plaited picot edges that are sewn on. The ground, which has been put in after, is plaited round Valenciennes type and is very tight. 45.143.1-2 are numbered #133 is an 18th c. Mechlin bobbin lace with a "mirror" design with honeycomb fillings and small quatrefoils. 45.143.3 is Mechlin with cinc trous ground with a desing of curving sprays and mirror medaillons at the footside #150. 45.143.4 is a Mechlin piece of bobbin lace with a floral ring and mirror medaillon with unusual fillings #128. 45.143.5.1-2 is a late 18th c. Brussels applique on vrai droschel. It has a sprigged design with Alencon type edge cartouches and fine fillings #119. 45.143.6 is a Mechlin bobbin lace with a simple design of large rings filled with round ground. The mesh is coarse and a bit irregular #146. It has an inscription that reads "from Bohemia". (MLK agrees with this). 45.143.7 is fine late 18th century Mechlin with a design of sprigs and dots with an edge strip of open gound ground filling #102. 45.143.8 is a joined pair of early 1700 Brussels lappets with superb Baroque florals with square ends. This is a very dense design with some minor edge wear. This piece was mounted to the sample backing upside down. There is no auction label with this piece. 45.143.9.1-2 two pieces of Angleterre/Brussels motifs re-mounted on machine net. The design is of a bird with two cherries flying over a branch with a bird on a nest. This has been made up as cuffs(?) with 3 buttons and an edging. 45.143.10 is a worn edging of Mechlin bobbin lace with a fond d/armure ground with a design of florals with buds and filling bases. Two of the fillings are very nice.
