About this object

A bright purple silk satin backing with four pieces of lace attached. .1 is an ecru punto de aria collar with deep rounded scallops edging the strip of square motifs. The scallop band is woven tape. It is late 16th century. .2 is a collar assembled from two differnt geometric needle lace edgings from the late 16th century. It has small needle lace flowers inserted where it is needed to fit. .3 is two cuffs (45.138.3.1 and 45.138.3.2). The cuffs match .2 with odd pieces of Venise lace flowers and different geometric motifs. All three have a "new" needle picot border. .4 is made of three strips of mezzo punto joined side by side. The narrow twill tape is worked with needle lace and a raised edge with plain buttonhole bars and some open fillings. There are pendant carnations alternating with other flowers. ca. 1600.
