About this object

At the top of this gold embroidered miter is a painted mother of pearl medallion depicting God Sabaoth. Three brilliances are set at the top, bottom and sides of the medallion. 1 1/2-inch gold brocade bands edged in seed pearls extend from the top of the mitre down each side. Four other medallions are placed at the end of the gold brocade. These depict Christ, John the Baptist, the Mother of God, and Paul. Below these medallions a brass band encircles the brim of the miter. A purple stone, surrounded by six stones of a lighter purple shade, is set on the brass band below each of the four medallions. Between the stones are engraved Cyrillic inscriptions. Each quadrant of the main body of the mitre is embroidered with metallic gold thread stumpwork depicting grapes, leaves and vines. The miter is edged with gold mesh. The interior is lined with gold silk.
