About this object

At the top of this red velvet miter is a painted wood medallion depicting God the Father as the Ancient of Days. The medallion is surrounded by a row of pearls. Rows of pearls and yellow beads extend from the medallion to create four quadrants. Each section contains a painted wood medallion depicting Christ, John the Baptist, the Mother of God and the crucifixion. The area between each section is treated with gold lattice work on top of which is a large eight pointed spray of pearls outlined with yellow beads. Between each point is a large brilliance. Below each spray is a pointed geometrical shape possibly symbolizing the royal doors. A row of pearls creates a band at bottom that is embellished with a diamond shaped pattern of gold beads. Inside the diamond shapes, clusters of brilliances are alternated with single brilliances. The edge is finished with gold brocade. The interior of the miter is lined with blue damask silk. A drawstring could be used to secure the miter.
