About this object

Child size Russian Orthodox vestment made for coronation of Nicholas II. Garment has round neckline, slit in front with wide kimono style sleeves. The fabric is 31" plus loomed fabric of gold and gold colored silk thread embroidered and woven with white metal threads. The pattern consists of baroque scrolling and imperial double eagles outlined in dark red silk. Front yoke panel decorated with looped stiff gold threads in scrolled design. Back yoke panel contains a crown executed in stiff looped gold wound threads outlined in dark red imposed on satin stitched ground with woven radiating rays from behind the crown. Braid is applied as border to front and back panels. Hemline and sleeves also trimmed with braid. Garment is lined with coton sateen.
