About this object

The piece was originally part of a cope. The design is of silver, gold, and silk brocade with a pattern of grape leaves and wheat sheaves that peeks in a bouquet of flowers. Running along the leaves are pussy willows. The flower clusters are on a background of silver metal threads. There are sections of silver surrounding the leaves and garlands on which are brown chenille flowers. The pattern repeats every 3 1/2 inches. The piece is composed of six pieces inexactly sewn together. The largest of these are three panels. Each side panel measures 14.25 inches. The central panel measures 20.25 inches. There is an inset panel at one end of the center panel that measures 20.25 inches in width and 5 inches in height. At one end of each of the side panels there are triangular pieces that measure 4 1/4 inches by 3 inches by 5 inches.
