About this object

The background is a dark red velvet. In the center of each panel is a bust of a evangelist, .1 is St. Matthew. The faces and hands of the two Evangelists are realistically painted on cloth, their halos embroidered in gold, their upper garments are in gold brocade embroidered in seed pearls and sequins, their lower robes are in silver brocade. Each holds a book, the cover in gold brocade embroidered in bits of turquoise. Around the figures is a border embroidered in stump work of large flowers and leaves in gold thread of different colors. the fringe and large tassels are in gilt.
